As part of our science topic, we were looking at the journey of Tim Peake from Earth to space. As a class we mapped the journey thinking about minute detail that Tim would go through on the day of the space launch. Next, we wrote details and words for stages of his journey on a story map. Group then took different parts of his journey and created soundscapes – for take-off, increasing speed, breaking through the atmosphere, the initial breakthrough into space etc.
We then listened to the soundscapes in turn and collected words again, using all the vocabulary and imagination from each part to write a first-person description of launch day.
What’s it good for? Descriptive writing, poetry, empathy, paragraphing, story mapping, recount, first-person narratives.
